Rocket Riders Across the Ice or Racing Against Time
By Howard R. Garis
Publisher: A. L. Burt 1933 1st ed., 1933

The Rocket Riders sequence beginning with Rocket Riders Across the Ice, or Racing against Time (1933), bases its speculations about future forms of Transportation on the Invention of a highly flexible Rocket engine, which variously powers – one mode per volume – power sleds, automobiles, boats and aeroplanes. The three young heroes, whose virtues interact in a way typical of the Airplane Boys tale, have adventures befitting these various modes of transportation, but do not seek to change the world.

These tales were of a considerable imaginative power which he did not match in his contributions to the Tom Swift series.

Howard Roger Garis (April 25, 1873 – November 6, 1962) was an American author, best known for a series of books, most books he published under his own name but in Baseball Joe he published under Lester Chadwick, that featured the character of Uncle Wiggily Longears, an engaging elderly rabbit. Garis and his wife were possibly the most prolific children's authors of the early 20th century. Many of his books were illustrated by Lansing Campbell.

Garis was born in Binghamton, New York. He and his spouse Lilian Garis both worked as reporters for the Newark Evening News
