DICK TRACY Adventures
By Chester Gould
Publisher: Gladstone.
Police detective Dick Tracy is one of the classic newspaper strips, originating in a violent urban setting of the 1930s and continuing into the next century. Dick Tracy’s world, consisting of weird villains and bizarre, often brutal situations, is the constant that defines the strip. Creator Chester Gould, set the formula and the writers and artists that succeeded him follow it faithfully.
Dick Tracy Adventures is Gladstone Publishing’s response to the powerful cry of the famous “flat foot’s” avid fans for a higher-caliber publication. The result is a book with crisper reproduction qualities, more vibrant color, and more durable binding. Published bimonthly in a mini-graphic novel format, the book reprints entire storylines that formerly ran as a series of newspaper strips (for example, the story in the first issue originally ran from Feb. 1, 1942, through April 18, 1942).
The strips contain all the classic Tracy elements, from his trademark hat to his two-way wrist radio, and are interspersed with Tracy’s Crimestopper Textbook tips.
