This listing is for a large ORIGINAL 1889 ORIGINAL KURZ & ALLISON CHROMOLITHOGRAPH "BATTLE BETWEEN THE MONITOR AND MERRIMAC".
Marked on lower border Copyrighted 1889 by Kurz & Allison, Art Publishers, 76 & 78 Wabash Ave., Chicago, U.S.A.
Louis Kurz visited the scene of battlefields and camps to make pictorial representations. He drew what he saw and also what others told him they had seen. He became one of the first war correspondents, but used a canvas instead of words. From the sketches he made, Kurz later reproduced 36 as chromolithographs, together with noted engraver Andrew Allison.

This an original chromolithograph as stated. NOT the smaller version available I see most everywhere that come from disbound copies of the 1969 Book.
It is 27" X 21" and the litho image is 25" X 17 1/2"
Multiple rips and tears which I recommend that the buyer have linen-backed or paper-backed by professional. I can recommend one of the best archivest in the world upon written request.
Image quality is superb, brilliant and vivid.
VERY GOOD Condition with the usual softeness & wear to corners and edges from being handled and stored.
