Actually a better and more mature attitude towards monsters horror science fiction movies and culture. COF was the high watermark of this genre of magazines. Especially since Famous Monsters of Filmland at the time was still stuck in preaching to the preteens while the original fans had grown up a bit. Oh we still bought FMof mostly out of habit sometimes simply because of wanting to maintain our collections. But it was always exciting and a treat to spot a new issue of Castle of Frankenstein and almost being unable to get home quick enough and crack it open and just read and read.

COF never had the production value or distribution that Famous Monsters had so we had to make sure to hunt it down before anybody else got a copy.

This issue- Dorian Gray continuing article on causes and effects of horror films lost horror classics (such as Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde and The Mystery of the Wax Museum) and Dark Shadows. Also includes part one of an interview with Robert Bloch. Cover art by Ken Kelly
