Marc Spector was a mercenary whose bloodthirsty commander turned on him when he refused to aid in the execution of innocent civilians. Beaten unconscious, Spector’s body was dumped in the middle of the desert, where he was left to die. His life was saved when he discovered an ancient temple of the moon god Khonshu. Mystically healed by powers of the temple, Spector was reborn as a fighter for justice.

To aid in his battles, he cultivated different identities for himself. As Steven Grant, he used Wall Street wizardry to parlay his savings into a large fortune. Later, he added the identity of Jake Lockley, a street-smart cabbie who hears everything. Finally, as Moon Knight, he exacts vengeance for the crimes of those who prey on the weak and the innocent
