Rocketeer Adventure Magazine #1

Premiere issue! The amazing Rocketeer may soar across the skies as if he doesn't have a care or a fear in the world. But Cliff Secord, the young pilot behind the mask, is laden with worries and anxieties as Betty, his best girl, has been whisked away from Los Angeles and taken to New York City by lecherous Hollywood photographer Marco. She left suddenly and without warning in a desperate attempt to jump-start her career and gain Cliff's attention. At least half of Betty's plan works. As Marco marches her about before his actor friends in New York's swankiest clubs, Cliff flies across country without rest in an attempt to catch Betty before she gets on a luxury liner headed for Europe.

Along the way Cliff is helped by his old pal Goose McGee who tells him his mysterious employer Mr. Jonas wants to hire the Rocketeer for a very sensitive job while he's in New York. But Cliff's mind is on one thing only and he confronts Betty at the exotic El Morocco night club. While Betty deals with the rush of emotions his sudden appearance triggers, Marco lays into the young man with both fists. Cliff gives back as good as he gets until Marco's goons step in to make things patently unfair. That's when Mr. Jonas appears out of nowhere (like a stealthy Shadow) and extricates Cliff from his self-made mess. Convinced Betty doesn't want anything more to do with him, Secord leaves, not realizing how tragically wrong he is. Also, thrill to the young adventures of Brucilla, the Muscle, in "Buy, Buy Birdy!," a futuristic story of robotics and cloned chickens written and drawn by Elaine Lee and Michael Kaluta with inks by Charles Vess.
