"Moon of Blood!" is written by Steve Englehart and drawn by Mike Ploog and Sal Buscema. Kull of Atlantis has lost the throne of Valusia to Ardyon the First, a human guise worn by the black sorcerer with the skull face Thulsa Doom. Taken prisoner by the same Black Legion he once commanded, Kull must listen helplessly to Doom's pronouncement. He is to be beheaded in the public square immediately. With a spell, the ancient wizard has bound Kull's tongue so that no one may be swayed but his stories of how Ardyon is actually an evil magician. And all seems lost.

That is until Narda, the concubine who once served Kull and now Ardyon, takes pity on him and rides out to the camp of Kargan, chieftain of the hilltop warriors, to seek aid. Kull, she says, could be a great warrior in service of Kargan. And Kargan realizes that with the help of a mystic amulet, he'll be able to bend the will of the former king to his own. With the timely intervention of Brule the loyal Pict, the headsman's axe is halted and Doom thwarted for a time. Kull uses the opportunity to ride back to Kargan's camp and, driven by the amulet, swear fealty to him. But when Brule sees Kargan's cruelty to another Pict, he cannot hold back and soon he and Kull are battling their liberators. Also, don't miss the morality tale of "The Stoneman" (drawn by Steve Ditko), wherein the greed of a European village is punished by the reanimated statue of ancient hero.
